Understand the ISR difference and how our experience has shaped our program.
As a new season gets underway, we strongly encourage families whose children haven't maintained consistent practice — or whose kids have hit notable physical and developmental milestones in the time since their last lessons — to enroll in refresher instruction before diving back in. It's completely natural for skills to fade without regular reinforcement, and children grow and change quickly. A technique that felt second-nature in a smaller body may need to be relearned and recalibrated as your child develops. Refresher lessons are specifically designed to address this, helping each student reconnect with previously learned skills, smooth out any rough edges, and rebuild the muscle memory and confidence that makes self-rescue instinctive. Beyond skill retention, these sessions also give us the opportunity to assess where your child currently stands and tailor instruction to meet them right where they are. Plan for refresher courses to run approximately two weeks, giving students enough time to get fully reacclimated and ready for the season ahead.
As children move through the five-to-seven age range, many begin naturally graduating into more expansive aquatic programming. This is an exciting milestone — it typically marks the point where a child has a strong enough foundation in water safety and self-rescue to start exploring the broader world of swimming. At this stage, instruction shifts toward side breathing techniques and the building blocks of traditional swim strokes, setting them up for a lifetime of skill, confidence, and enjoyment in the water.
